Primary Blog/Choosing the right exercise for you!

Running, weight lifting, group classes, yoga, cycling, CrossFit, swimming, and walking are a few ways we can exercise. Knowing the best for you can be challenging with so many options.

Then there are the social influences, time restraints, family obligations, injuries, busy schedules, and more that come into play when choosing which exercise best suits your needs.

Do you join a gym or tennis club or try a workout at home? Does your work have a fitness facility, or do your friends swear by their Pilates studio and have been begging you to go?

Do you want to lose weight or gain strength, or maybe your cardiovascular health could use improvement? But wait, your knee hurts when you run, so that won't work. But yoga is so boring you might fall asleep. But the gym is intimidating, so that's not a great option either.

If you're beginning to feel overwhelmed, you're not alone. At this point, many throw in the proverbial towel and quit before even starting. We call this analysis paralysis.
Please don't get stuck here; it's not worth it. Trust me.

So, now, let's talk about how to choose the right exercise for you!

Choose the one you will do. It's that simple, seriously. There isn't a right or wrong answer.
Yes, there are different benefits to different forms of exercise, and that can play a part in helping you choose the right activity for you. For example, walking won't get you very far if your goal is to build muscle and improve bone density; you'll want to choose some form of resistance training.
Still, the bottom line is that if you are between doing nothing and doing anything, do what you think you will enjoy or can be the most consistent at.

Aim to exercise for a minimum of three days. If you can't commit to an hour, start with 30 or 45 minutes or whatever you have time for regularly. Consistency is the key to effective exercise, even in short bursts of time.

If you start it and don't like it, or it doesn't work for your needs, by all means, try something else. But not doing anything is not the answer if you want to live a healthy, vibrant life.
Please keep it simple: don't overcomplicate exercising. And always remember, a body in motion stays in motion.
